Duncan Sheik
Format: Soundtrack

With score composed by famed singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik, A Home At The End Of The World also features songs from the '60s and '70s through the '80s, including tracks by Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, The Band, Yaz, Patti Smith, Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Laura Nyro and more. Sheik's emotional score captures the essence of the characters' journeys through their lives and the relationships they develop along the way.

Adapted from the novel/screenplay of Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Cunningham (The Hours), Colin Farrell gives an inspired performance as a tragedy-stricken youth whose search for identity and happiness forms the core of its unconventional friendship and romance. Its warm, admirably eclectic song-based soundtrack echoes the film's two decade arc with selections that span both era and emotion, from the innocence of Dusty Springfield's "Wishin' and Hopin'" and Yaz' infectious "Only You" to the angst-ridden classic rock-era bookends of "Somebody to Love" by the Jefferson Airplane and Patty Smith's epochal "Because the Night." The score's classical selections continue that thread with excerpts from Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte and contemporary minimalist Steve Reich's vibrant Music for Eighteen Musicians. But it’s the half-dozen warm, introspective new tracks from Duncan Sheik that form the soundtrack's evocative emotional core, with melancholic, production-rich standouts like "Something Somewhere" infusing it with a smart, contemporary atmosphere in the bargain. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

Great CD!!
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
This movie is one of my all-time favs and the soundtrack takes me back to it whenever I play it. It would have been nice to have all the songs included, however, the ones that are on it are a great selection. I agree with the other reviewer that perhaps it was a licensing issue or permission was denied by the artist and/or rep. But all in all, it love this CD!! I'm a huge Duncan Sheik fan and anyone who is is sure to appreciate and love this CD as well...

Ok that's it !!!

GET OVER IT!!! the Laura Nyro songs aren't on there, it's not the end of the world, no pun intended. Plus the fact I hardly think that the 5 minute scene, if it's even that long, that features "Gonna take a miracle", and "Desiree", MADE THIS MOVIE THAT "EMOTIONALLY RESONANT". Duncan Sheik's scoring and 2 new songs are extremely moving, these songs are peppered throughout the WHOLE picture. This means the WHOLE movie, which is what they were recorded and used for, not for one freakin' scene. For the fans of the actual MOVIE, this is a must have. For the fans of Laura Nyro, don't buy it then! THE END.

The previous review couldn't be more correct, Laura Nyro's "Desiree"
and "It's Gonna Take A Miracle" should be on the soundtrack [a contractual problem, no doubt] Do what I did and download the
songs on itunes for 99 cents each. While you're at it, download
Yaz's early 80's electronic gem, "Only You" too [background music
when Jonathan was cruising the village] I also resequinced the songs
in order that they appeared in the film. Problem solved!

a great buy

If you are a fan of Duncan Sheik, this is a must buy. Fantastic music all around, but especially from Sheik.

I loved all the pieces on this soundtrack and I definitely rec this.

Where is Laura Nyro?
Customer Rating: 3 out of 5
Laura's music gave the film so much in the way of soul, hard to believe it's missing here. Hmmm...anyway, I'd still recommend the film and soundtrack!
